The theology faculty of SLU — Madrid is leading a day trip to Ávila to promote student engagement with the historical and theological riches of Spain. Teresa of Ávila is a mystic and doctor of the Catholic Church. Her writings are regularly assigned in theology courses at the university. This trip will introduce students to some of the major locations in her life, including the monastery where she first entered the Carmelite religious order. Students will also have an opportunity to explore the medieval cathedral and the intact walls of the city, both of which played an important role in Teresa’s religious imagination.
